The Ordinary Skincare

by - May 14, 2017

There’s one brand at the moment that is getting quite a bit of hype.. The Ordinary. It’s part of the brand Deciem and the main selling point is clinically proven skincare ingredients without all the fancy extras, allowing the products to be sold at a fraction of the price. Their quite a technical heavy brand so I do think if you’re not familiar with skincare ingredients it can be quite scary to look at the list of products (acids, on my face.. what!?), but luckily the website offers a regime guide which is very helpful.

A lot of the products are serum based however they do some moisturisers, primers and very recently makeup. The packaging of the products is quite simple, the serums come in frosted glass bottles and they have a pipette dropper, very clinical but I am a big fan of the style. The Ordinary is now avaliable on The Ordinary, Asos, Beauty Bay & Victoria Health.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

This is one of the stand out products for me, I didn’t realise how much of a fan my skin was of hyaluronic acid until I tried this. It’s a clear water based solution which sinks in to the skin and doesn't leave any residue. I use this in my skincare routine of a morning and an evening and my skin is left feeling so refreshed and plumped. I must admit it’s never felt so hydrated, I have noticed that if I skip it from my routine my skin feels tight and uncomfortable, definitely a staple in my routine now.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

I use the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum as the next step in my routine. Again, it’s a clear water based solution however it does leave a slight tackiness to the skin once applied, nothing that doesn't dry in after about a minute or so. This is a good serum if you suffer from breakouts, unfortunately it doesn’t prevent them however it does help to reduce the redness and inflammation when used regularly.

Azeliac Acid Suspension 10%

This is a cream product that helps to reduce the look of blemishes but I think the real charm of it is how it brightens the skin. I use this of an evening after my serums and I notice that the next morning my skin looks a lot brighter and my skin tone looks a bit more even. As I use it in my nighttime routine I don’t use an SPF, however if I was using it in my daytime routine it must be worn.

Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

I hate to admit it but I was a little disappointed with the Rose Hip Seed Oil, I do think that after reading a few reviews online I was possibly expecting a little too much. Rosehip is good for adding hydration to the skin and while it does deliver, it just doesn't beat the Clarins Blue Orchid Oil or the Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial. However when used over a prolonged period of time it does have the added bonus of reducing the appearance of fine lines and some acne scarring. It is of course a fraction of the price of the other oils and without comparing it to anything else it really is a brilliant product that does the job well. If your new to skincare then this would probably be one of the best products to try out.

High Adherence Silicone Primer

Im not really a fan of many silicone primers, I find a lot of them help makeup slip off rather than fixing it in place, however I was quite surprised by this one. It’s a white cream texture unlike many other silicone primes which tend to be a gel texture. It absorbs in to the skin pretty quickly and I do find that my makeup goes on a lot smoother and it does have a slightly blurring effect on the pores. I wouldn’t say that it helps my makeup to stay on longer throughout the day, but it’s nothing that a touch up can’t sort out.

Overall I’m very impressed with The Ordinary, I think it’s so hard to find a skincare brand at drugstore prices that actually works. It is definitely worth taking an hour out of your time to read up on the products and the ingredients, because in the end it will save you so much money. I can’t wait to get my hands on a few more of the serums.. more specifically The Buffet!

Have you tried anything from The Ordinary? What are your thoughts?
